Katy Tabb will be coming to BDC for a week-long intensive with a focus on Musical Theater Jazz and Tap technique and repertory. Students will have classes in technique, repertory, vocal training (with the very talented Jon Lutyens), conditioning for dance, and musical theater appreciation.  There will be an In-Studio Performance Showing at the end of the week.

Katy Tabb is Seattle native dancer and choreographer. Past choreography credits include: Newsies, Singin’ In The Rain, Billy Elliot, and Hello My Baby at Village Theatre as well as the world premiere of Persuasion and upcoming Sweet Land at Taproot Theatre. As a performer, she has worked at the 5th Avenue Theatre, Village Theatre, Musical Theatre West, and 3D Theatricals amongst other notable regional theaters across the US. Katy toured internationally with Vox Dance Theatre and Benita Bike’s Dance Art. A teaching artist, she is on faculty at Westlake Dance Center and teaches master classes throughout the Greater Seattle area and at Cornish College of the Arts and University of Washington. She graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. in Dance from Chapman University and received additional training from The Ailey School. She loves sharing her passion for dance and storytelling with her students.

Jon Lutyens has worked primarily as an actor, in widely-varying projects ranging from classic plays (Mary Stuart, Mrs. Warren's Profession, Travesties) to Broadway hit musicals (Fiddler on the RoofThe Drowsy ChaperoneThe Full Monty); from Arthur Miller to Oscar Wilde, from Shakespeare to Irving Berlin.  Often his work calls for instrumental musicianship -- although his primary instrument is the piano (with 21 years experience), Jon has learned music for various instruments on demand, including concertina, upright bass, ukulele, banjolele, mandolin, and cello.  He also harbors complementary affinities for puppetry and magic, and has performed both onstage when asked.

In the Seattle area, Jon has worked with ACT Theatre, Intiman Theatre, 5th Avenue Theatre, Village Theatre, Seattle Shakespeare Company/Wooden O, Book-It Repertory, ArtsWest, Thistle Theatre, Seattle Public Theatre, Balagan Theatre, Centerstage, Theater Schmeater, SecondStory Repertory, Seattle Musical Theatre (CLO), Showtunes Theatre Company, and Our American Theatre Company.  Beyond Puget Sound, Jon has worked with Pennsylvania Youth Theatre, Actor's Repertory Theatre in Spokane, and will be making his debut with Arizona Theatre Company this March.

His playwrighting was put before the public this last summer during the 2012 Kamikaze weekend of 14/48, and he recently began songwriting for the theatre, premiering a score for Book-It Repertory's touring adaptation of the popular children's book series "SkippyJon Jones".
